However, many contact and some non-contact sports increase the risk of dental injuries. Here at Smile Craft Dental, we want to do everything we can to make sure your child grows up with a healthy and fully intact smile which is why we thoroughly recommend custom-made sports mouthguards. A mouthguard will protect your child’s teeth and gums, minimising the risk of dental injuries as much as possible.
Why Custom Mouthguards Are the Best Option
We know you can buy mouthguards over-the-counter for just a few dollars, but these offer minimal protection at best. Over-the-counter mouthguards are often ill-fitting and uncomfortable to wear so they are more likely to remain in your child sports bag than in their mouth.
In contrast, our mouthguards are especially designed to be comfortable to wear and they will not obstruct breathing. These mouthguards are thickened in critical areas, offering the best possible protection against accidental knocks and injuries. They are made from a tough thermoplastic material that tastes and smells completely neutral.
In order to make your child’s custom mouthguard, our dentist will simply need to take a detailed impression of your child’s teeth which is used by our dental laboratory to fabricate the mouth guard to our exact specifications. We will need to check the fit of their mouth guard at regular check-ups.
