Travelling Teeth: Maintaining good oral hygiene while you travel

Travelling Teeth: Maintaining good oral hygiene while you travel

When you decide to go traveling, whether it be a quick trip or a long haul, there are lots of things that enter your mind. While you start to think about planning, packing, exploring and having fun, it’s easy to put a few simple habits at the bottom of your list of priorities. This often includes looking after your teeth and oral hygiene. While the idea of looking after your teeth might sound easy, there’s more to keeping your mouth and teeth healthy while traveling than just brushing and flossing. Check out these handy tips to make sure your smile is as healthy as ever on your next trip!

Get a check-up before you leave

The last thing you want is to arrive at your destination only to find that you need an emergency dental procedure! That’s why you should book an appointment before you go away and get a general check-up. At smile Craft Dental, we can ensure that your teeth are in tip-top shape before you leave. It’s also a great idea to book it early enough that you can also attend a follow-up appointment if any treatments or procedures are needed.

Look after your toothbrush

You probably haven’t given the hygiene of your toiletry bag, much thought. Before you pack your toothbrush, make sure you clean out your toiletries bag and disinfect it well. Bacteria breeding on your brush can lead to possible infections and have a negative impact on your oral health. Additionally, you should try not to pack your brush into a closed environment where it stays wet as this allows for more bacterial growth. Otherwise, just ensure that you clean it as best you can and as often as you can while you are on your trip.

Check the water quality

When you’re used to cleaning drinking water on tap, you can forget that even brushing your teeth or rinsing your toothbrush with contaminated water could make you extremely ill. The quality of tap water is different all over the world. Make sure you find out about local water quality, and if you need to drink bottled water in the country you’re visiting, be sure to also brush your teeth and rinse your toothbrush with bottled water as well!

Watch what you eat

If you’re on holiday, it’s very easy to splurge and indulge yourself in as many delicious treats as possible. By all means, you absolutely should enjoy a whole range of culinary delights while you are on holiday, but it is essential that you still maintain your teeth simultaneously. Remember what sugary snacks do to your teeth and regularly brush and floss to minimize bacteria from growing.
It’s important to remember to be kind to your teeth at all times, especially while you are traveling. While a holiday lasts only a short time, your teeth must remain strong and healthy for the rest of your life! Keep up your oral health routine, and take extra steps to keep your teeth beautiful, clean and robust. Contact Smile Craft Dental today to book a check-up before you leave or to find out how else you can look after your teeth while you’re away!

Maintain Oral care throughout your Pregnancy

Maintain Oral care throughout your Pregnancy

Often when a woman becomes pregnant, their soon-to-be baby becomes the number one priority, causing them to put other aspects of their health behind. One of these health aspects is dental care. Dental care doesn’t stop just because you’re pregnant. In fact, it’s even more important to maintain a healthy dental routine when pregnant. This is because pregnancy creates a much higher risk of developing a range of dental issues such as tooth decay and gum disease. The good news is that maintaining oral care isn’t hard! If you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant, this is a must read!

Unfortunately, there’s still a widespread belief that visiting the dentist while pregnant can be harmful to you or your baby. Studies have even shown that a large portion of women have this belief, which could put them at significant risk. At Smile Craft dental we understand that women might avoid seeing a dentist and we want to provide them with the true care that they require.

Not only can pregnant women go to the dentist during pregnancy, but they should! Leaving your oral health problems untreated over a period of 9 months can be extremely harmful and cause significant issues and long-term pain. It can also be seen that your health will have an impact on the wellbeing of your baby too!

Dentists advise that making regular trips to the dentist is the best way to maintain oral health. For many people, a check-up every six months is best. However, hormone changes and cravings can put your oral health at greater risk and as such, more regular check-ups may be required. It is important that a dentist checks the condition of your teeth and gums and recommends any adjustments to your oral care routine or carry out any treatments that may be needed.

Because we understand that regular dental appointments during pregnancy are not ideal, we recommend that if you are planning to get pregnant you should visit your dentist and get any outstanding dental issues taken care of first. Why? To reduce the risk of any complications which occur during pregnancy. This ensures a far less complex and pain-free nine months of pregnancy. However, if you are already pregnant, not to fear! We can still maintain your oral health effectively and safely.

A common concern that people have about visiting the dentist while pregnant is being exposed to radiation from x-rays. However, modern dental x-rays use shallow doses of radiation and a single dose is not usually high enough to cause any adverse effects to your baby’s health and wellbeing. Your dentist will also make sure your baby is protected from the radiation by using a range of protective measures. Although x-rays are safe, your dentist may still advise avoiding them during the first trimester. However, if you have a dental emergency during this time, x-rays may still be needed to help you maintain your oral care.

If you need to have a dental procedure while pregnant, anaesthetic can still be used safely to help you relax and numb the pain. It’s essential that you inform your dentist about your pregnancy so they can choose fitting anaesthetics and set suitable levels. If you have any questions or concerns about the type of anaesthetic they’re using our expert team will be able to provide you with the support and care which you need. The use of anaesthetics can be extremely beneficial, as they allow you to feel comfortable and as such, your body and your baby will be placed under less stress.

Extractions are not a comfortable procedure for anyone. As such the dentists at Smile Craft Dental will always try to save your tooth before resorting to tooth extraction. However, if your tooth is too severely infected by decay or injury to be corrected, it could put your oral health at risk and it may need to be removed. Furthermore, if tooth decay reaches the inside of your tooth where the nerve endings are, this can be extremely painful. Root canal treatment can stop the pain by removing the infected tissue and restoring the tooth with a natural-looking crown, so the tooth would not need to be extracted. This means that there a range of options for you, giving you the peace of mind that you can make decisions which set best with you.

Not only are these treatments safe but a range of others are too. This includes teeth whitening, root canals and even some orthodontic procedures. It’s best to book an appointment with your Dentist to ensure that treatments suit you and where you are at in your pregnancy.

So how else can you avoid oral issues throughout your pregnancy? If you already follow a healthy oral hygiene routine, that’s a great sign! It’s far less likely that you’ll need to improve dental problems throughout your pregnancy. As well as regular brushing and flossing, you should try to avoid acting on unhealthy cravings and make sure you keep up with your regular dental check-ups. You should also avoid brushing your teeth straight after morning sickness, as this can damage the enamel surface of your teeth. If you need any more tips and advice, look online or give us a call! We are always happy to provide you with information over the phone!

Introducing the magic of digital smile design

Introducing the magic of digital smile design

It has become pretty clear that the world of technology has been evolving like never before. In particular, the Dental Industry has been changing incredibly quickly, offering a huge range of exciting prospects. The shifting landscape of dentistry has led to the development of digital smile design. (DSD)

Digital Smile Design is recognised worldwide as the dentistry world’s most premier technology. It involves taking photos of the patient and using computers to design dental solutions that best suit their unique and individual needs. This enables patients to see accurate results before a procedure is even performed. Why is this so great? Because it allows your dentist to plan only the most suitable restorative treatments more efficiently, while also encouraging patients to become involved in the process themselves and see what their new smiles will look like to the highest possible level of accuracy. Being able to clearly envision your outcome can be useful for getting an idea of the final results of our treatments, as well as giving you the unique chance to make the cosmetic changes you truly desire during the design stage and before any procedures actually take place.

Unlike traditional restorative treatments that only work to focus on the teeth, gums and jaw, the highly advanced DSD system also works to consider all of the complex relationships between the mouth and other parts of the face involved in smiling, to create a more aesthetically pleasing overall result. For example it allows dentists to hone in on features such as the cheeks, eyes and lips. It also visualises a wide range of facial expressions, to show you how your smile will look when displaying a range of emotional states, helping you to design a smile that truly matches your goals. Not happy with the design? We can show you possible changes, before any procedures even take place!

Furthermore, Digital Smile Design allows dentists to design custom crowns and veneers that are tailored to the specific requirements and demands of the patient. Using these state-of-the-art technologies and innovative techniques, Smile Craft Dental is able to deliver superior aesthetic smile design results, which are not achievable at many dentists in Australia.

With digital smile Design, you become the co-designer of their own treatment by sharing your personal objectives, and unique desires and expectations with the restorative team. The interaction between you as a patient and our dental specialists is improved by photos and videos taken at several steps of the treatment. Once the restorative technical requirements are combined withyour desires and emotional needs, great results will be achieved – creating a path to a natural, confident and beautiful smile.
